About Apron Strings Candy Market

How did your passion for candy develop?

I have always enjoyed spending time in the kitchen. It delights me when people enjoy my cooking and baking. My grandmother and mother were both amazing cooks who taught me to bake, boil and fry, but they didn’t make much candy, so I learned as I went.

As the mother of four, it seemed as if the kitchen is where we spent most of our time together. I have sweet memories of my children sitting on the floor doing their homework while I made dinner. They learned fractions while learning to cook and our long meaningful talks during cooking successes and failures led to a deep love for cooking. To this day they all enjoy cooking to some degree and often help their mom out in the shop preparing orders.

What was your first recipe?

It all started with a simple toffee recipe. I’ll admit it was really difficult to learn, a lot of trials and mostly error. Once I had it perfected I gave most of it away and people fell in love with the taste. My first successful candy and sale was for traditional English Toffee, it has remained one of my best sellers.

Where do you sell your candy?

Our kitchen and small storefront is located on our acreage and was a former ceramic shop. We converted the shop into a commercial kitchen and became licensed with the state, city, and local health departments. We officially opened for business in December 2019 and added a small retail shop in January 2020.

We sell our products at local craft fairs, home shows, and various events. Check our upcoming events page for dates and locations! You can find our retail shop at 3810 E. Market in Enid, Oklahoma.

What is next for Apron Strings Candy Market?

Branching into bigger markets. We really enjoy meeting our customers and getting to know what types of candies they grew up enjoying from their mothers and grandmothers. We now take the time to experiment with our candies and flavors and enjoy coming up with new products. We are family owned and operated since my husband and adult children joined the business. We would LOVE to show you what we can do!

Momma’s Apron Strings

A little hand is clutched around

a mother’s apron strings, and

never ventures farther than

the length, the strings will bring,

And as the hand grows larger,

the apron strings will fray,

but the bonding thus established

is forever and a day.
